MOBILE APP

Launched in 2015, KIMOJI became the #1 highest grossing mobile app in five countries. This custom emoji app is one of three digital products designed and produced by our team for Kim Kardashian West.

OBJECTIVE

Increase keyboard installations by improving the in app on-boarding experience.

SOLUTION

Conduct user testing to discover insights that inform the redesign of the on-boarding experience.

KEY INSIGHT

My team and I had a short window to design, test and release a new solution. Using Jake Knapp's Design Sprint to expedite our traditional process, we were able to launch a viable product in under ten days. We tested a version of the prototype on the right with real users to vet our new solution, ensuring the update would yield a positive and effective response from users.

USER TESTING

My study included 8 participants. Each tested the new on-boarding experience.  As the moderator, I began each session with a short setup, then allowed participants free reign to explore the prototype on their own. For qualitative understanding, participants were asked to speak out loud and were recorded. Each session also had one observer who took handwritten notes throughout the testing. Our results were critical to the final design because they validated our hypothesis.

WIREFRAMES

Insight from our user testing was applied and documented with wireframes before final designs were completed.
